Reclaiming and Honoring Our Community’s Story

February 24, 2026

History has taken on a deeper and more significant meaning for us at Canfield Consortium, especially given the current global climate surrounding how “history” is manipulated and packaged. By definition, history encompasses the study of past events—particularly in human affairs—and the full sequence of experiences that shape a person, place, or community. It is essential that truth and honor remain at the forefront of how history is understood and shared.

This commitment has prompted us to look more intentionally into the true history of East Canfield Village and to honor its rich legacy. That legacy continues to guide the development of our community. It has been inspiring to uncover some of the remarkable events rooted in our neighborhood, and we look forward to sharing them not only during Black History Month, but throughout the entire year.

A clear understanding of history—and its impact on those who came before us—allows us to move forward with greater intention and purpose. History carries a dynamic energy, and the way it is documented and received profoundly shapes the future we build.

We remain steadfast in our vision for a vibrant and glorious future for East Canfield Village.
