Malcolm X’s journey was deeply shaped in Detroit. He spoke here, worshiped here, organized here, learned here, taught here, and built community here. Malcolm X Plaza will honor that enduring connection by creating a beautiful public space for reflection, education, gathering, and remembrance.
Designed as a living tribute, the Plaza will serve as an open-air classroom and community gathering place where residents and visitors can engage with the life, revolutionary teachings, self-determination, and enduring legacy of Malcolm X. At the heart of the Plaza will be a monumental sculpture by acclaimed Detroit-born artist Mario Moore, whose work honors Black history, culture, identity, and the human spirit.
